Dear Sir:

I have a few questions about the way we dress at the church meeting. When I go to a meeting at the church building, I always remove my hat, because it is good manners/normal. Also, 1Cr11:4 states that if a man is praying or prophesying with his head covered he dishonoureth is head…
1Cr11:15 tells us that long hair is a covering for a woman.
But, if a women has short hair, she has no covering;(which many do now) does’nt this mean they should cover thier head? Because they do not have long hair( long hair is thier covering).
1Cr11:16 states that their is no such custom in the church of God… .If, there is no custom in the church of God; does’nt this mean people are free to choose to wear a covering: a man or woman can wear a hat, have long or short hair?
I would like to know more about what the bible means by these passages.

From what I can understand from reading chapter 11 of I Corinthians it was the custom, and Mosaic law, of the Jews for a man, specifically the priests, to not cut the hair on his temples and to wear a head covering while in worship (I forget where this is in the Old Testament, but I know I’ve seen it). It is also the custom for a woman to have her head covered (only the prostitutes had their heads uncovered on the streets) and not cut her hair unless she has become a widow.
Paul is saying that in the New Testament covenant that we no longer have these customs as we are no longer under the Mosaic law.

Thank you for leaving your comment. So this means that we are free to choose: men can wear a hat at the meeting, women can have short hair, men can have long hair, etc.
I ask this question because some one was asked to remove thier cap at a meeting (he). It made me think why he was asked to remove is cap, since we have no such custom in the New Testament Church.

As for general clothing, we are to make sure that what we wear is in all modesty, and that we wear as nice/decent clothing as possible as we are coming together to honor and worship God.

Anyways, Have Happy and Blessed New Year Norm! I hope that you will have many many more years in the Lord’s service!

I have been listening to a preacher online. He stated that we should not drink alcohol. I know that the bible teaches that we should not drink too much or get drunk. But, I think that to teach that drinking alcohol is wrong is unscriptual. What is your view on the subject?
Also, he stated that the Revelation of John as not been fulfilled. I think that when it says in 1:1 that these things must shortly come to pass. Means that what was written has happened. What is your opinion on this?

Well, as for drinking, the Bible does preach against drunkenness (Luke 21:34; Romans 13:13; Galatians 5:21). It has also been said that drinking one drink makes you one drink drunk. So, if that’s true, then just taking one drink would be a sin.
As for the book of Revelation, I’ll have to do a little more study on it. But, I do know that most of it deals with the Christian’s persecution from the Romans, and the Christian’s ultimate victory over that persecution if they remain faithful to God. That’s about all I feel confident to comment on about that.
